Goodbye Quilt Mavericks

For a while I belonged to two quilt rings, the Artful Quilters Ring, and the Quilt Mavericks ring. Quilt Mavericks is a nice group of quilters who mostly make scrappy, comfy quilts (not art quilts). I guess I have been posting too much about art and artists lately and neglecting to post about my "other" side of quilting. (remember I also make "comfy" utilitarian quilts). To my great surprise, they have booted me off of Quilt Mavericks, apparantly for talking about art too much. I NEVER said ANYTHING that wasn't encouraging or friendly, I just talked about art too much.

It would have been nice to have some kind of reminder or request before receiving the "sorry you don't fit with us" message. So, will the artful quilters kick me off if I post something utilitarian?

Why can't we all just get along?

Well geeze, Jen, that sucks! I agree, a warning would have been a nice courtesy, but I'd have hated to see you change your blogging style to try to fit what sounds like some too-narrow guidelines.

Jen, I "found" your blog because you were a member of the so-called Mavericks ring ... and will continue to enjoy your posts on Artists (and other stuff).

(FYI, I was denied membership in the so-called Mavericks ring and judned "Not a quilter" because I enjoy and write about other interests).

I got the boot too!

As I said in my entry "Unplugged from the Quilt Mavericks", there is plenty of room on the world wide web for all quilters.

It's a real shame that the Mavericks have changed their rules after accepting members.

Onward! I usually bop over here for your art anyway so when I get my webring started, you are more than welcome to come play.

Hmmm. I know that Allie Aller got booted off our blog ring and she makes wonderful crazy quilts which I think are the epitome of art.

Nothing like keeping the mind narrow. More art please.

Jen I am in good campany then because I got the boot too, I felt like Debra Spincic why let us join if they are only going to eject us later, I wonder if it is a power thing,
I like to see all sides of textile art and I don't narrow myself to only one style,

Hm - so does this mean your "art" quilts aren't quilts? Or do the mavericks have a rule that all the quilts that you make have to go on a bed? Or ???

Kinda hard to get my mind around this one.

That's pretty silly. Besides, I enjoy reading about everyone's lives and artistic influences. Those are the things that influence our pieces, you know?

Well, I'm not artistic enough for the artful quilters, I've been officially told. Sigh. I think the narrow guidelines go both ways- I'm starting my artistic journey but haven't gotten to a point where it counts? Anyway! Hope we'll still check in w/one another!
