We spent most of Saturday looking at bathroom galleries, bathtubs, books about bathrooms, and websites. I think I may have mentioned that we live in a house that is almost 50 years old, and some of it was badly redone, probably in the 80's. Yes, we are preparing to embark on that great adventure called "remodeling". Sticker shock aside, I am amazed to discover that after 29+ years of marriage, my husband and I agree on almost nothing when it comes to these decisions. So far, he doesn't like ANYTHING that isn't traditional. OK, so we won't be doing copper, granite or glass bowl sinks. How about something old fashioned then? Nope, he hates beadboard and doesn't like most of the pedestals. Who knew? I'm exhausted already and we haven't even started! Seriously, if anyone who has been through this adventure has any advice, let me know.

Lovely bathtubs, but maybe you can agree on a shower.
And boo - hiss to those 'mavericks' who don't sound like mavericks at all, but uptight stick-in-the-muds.
Whatever you get, think about how quick and easy it'll be to clean - no fiddly trims! (ask me how I know....ours came with the house too...).
if i had a bathroom like the one in the first photo i don't think i'd ever come out of there...:)
but i have no advice...apartment dweller here. but i'm going to look forward to your remodeling adventure.
I can help some and Jane Ann (The Jettstream) is a retired interior designer. She's on the Artist Way webring, where we don't kick people off *wink*.
This reminds me of my husband and I when we were going to remodel our house in NC. He decided to hire a designer to work with us and help blend our differing ideas. He finally said, "This is not working for me; she agrees with everything you want!!" Hang in there; tell him you are the artist and to leave it to you!!
My advice: Build a whole new house instead. It's much easier than remodeling. (Sorry for being a smartass, but I'm only half-kidding...I've done both and I'd build again in a heartbeat but would think twice about taking on another "unique fixer-upper opportunity".)
I think your husband should just be quiet and let you have whatever you want, but I don't guess what I think will matter much to him. :-D
Oooo! Have been through this every time we need something done; our compromises have resulted in a remarkable mish mash with no clear direction.
I'm with Liz on quick and easy to clean; one of our worst compromises was the white berber carpet that I told him over and over would not look good long - it was eventually replaced with wood floors we both love, but not before our Mac had chewed up a blue ink pen and tracked blue foot prints all over.
So I am guessing you want a bathtub? And if you spend time in that tub you want something comfy. So instead of talking, start climbing into the suckers! If it aint' cushy for your tushy, don't get it.
Me, I like the big showers where you don't need a door/cutrain. But since I live in a single wide trailer {yuck, but paid for} I will settle for a large shower set up when the time comes to remodel. Tub is only used to wash the dog around here.
Those bathrooms are bigger than my studio...of course, you need a wonderful tub to soak in after a hard day making art.
We would have to build a new house to get one of these babies unless I could get Ronnie to give up the master bedroom.
I was thinking about your project last night.
A suggestion? Each of you have a defined role in the project. Your husband can be the general contractor picking the workers, the time schedule, overseeing the actual work. You can be the designer doing the research. Once you have a few choices decided present 2 or 3 to him for an opinion. They will be 2 or 3 that you want so no matter what he picks you want them anyway. Don't give him the whole catalog to choose from for his decision.
Also, think practical. Those pictures look good but do they function? Pedestal sinks are pretty but where do you store the extras so necessary in a bathroom? I don't like to run out to the hall closet for TP when I need it.
Are you a serious bathtaker? I am and I have a huge jacuzzi tub that I use nightly. Wes likes his big shower & rarely gets in the tub. I might take a shower once a week. Which is better for both of you-- if you can't have both of them, which I would guess in an 80s house is the situation?
