You are allowed to use them for free and without getting any special permission, though most photographers do retain copyright. Great for artistic inspiration. I rarely use a photograph directly, but find they are great for sketching and color inspiration. Terms of use are on the website.

I have found myself spending less time in blog land lately, but I did just finish a fantastic book. If you are looking for a good read, try People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks. I got my copy here at the library and it's probably available at yours if you don't want to buy it. Worth owning though, it's an excellent read. I have been trying in recent years not to buy so many books since after a while storage gets to be a problem. Same with fabric and art supplies, though I am a little less successful in that area. I look around our overfilled house and think "simplify, you MUST simplify". That is kind of a buzzword these days, but it is true. The clutter of life takes over if your don't work to keep it under control.

i hear ya on the simplify!!! i'm trying to depend more on my library as well and i keep tellling myself that i have everything i really need to make art!!! i'll check out the links.
I whizzed through that book - it was on special 7 day only, no renewals, loan at the library - with $1 a day overdue fine! A good read.
Like you I'm trying to cut down on book buying (and storing) -- now I pass on the novels either to friends or the thrift shop. But the textiles "reference" books are harder to give away....
I didn't like that book at all, which surprised me because I expected to. I thought it predictable, so like others I've read that trace an artifact through history, and the main character was so spoiled and narcissistic that she turned me off the whole thing. Part of this is me, though; recently I have trouble finding a book I like that isn't reminiscent of something I've already read. Currently I'm reading Lush Life by Richard Price, and liking it quite a bit; haven't liked his others much. Go figure.

SIMPLIFY - I have been trying to accomplish this for years...I just have too many interests to actually get it done.
Simplify?????? I wish I could do that....get rid of some fabric...but everytime I try, I see more fabric that I just have to have....LOL
