A Quiet Time

I'm still here, just haven't been online much. Computer troubles at our house mean that I have had to start sharing my computer with my son, and he is online a LOT. To be fair, he is a senior at UCSD, so it isn't all chat or games.

To tell the truth, I'm not sure I have much interesting to tell. I have spent a couple of very quiet weeks reading, sleeping, , listening to books, watching DVDs, well...you get the idea. Pretty low key to say the least. Last week I finally started going out for short trips, things like a trip to the fabric store, out to lunch, Starbuck's, the public library. I even had my hair cut and "enhanced" which also lifted my spirits since things were getting pretty scary in that department.

I am light years better since the surgery, but I am surprised to find that I am still recovering. I have no stamina and there is still occasional pain. I would be worried about this, but my doctor told me that as the nerves heal, you feel small twinges of pain and that it is actually a good sign.
I guess they give you six whole weeks for a reason. If I were 100%, there are at least a dozen projects around the house and garden that I would dive into, but I lack the strength. I guess that makes the perfect excuse to be lazy.

I have finished a bullseye quilt done from a fabric swap (and started about four years ago!) and am working on a log cabin. Not much to report in the artistic department, although I have done a little sketching here and there. Hopefully, now that I have cut way back on meds and am sleeping less I can spend more time being creative.

Jen, so glad to see you check in. I've popped by your blog now and then to see if anything was new and thought about emailing you but didn't want to bug you, as I figured you were probably still having to take things easy.

Glad to hear that you're on the mend, even if that always takes longer than we'd like. Sending you cyberhugs and good thoughts.

Like Deb, I've checked several times to see what was going on and am glad to find you back to the blog! Recovery is a slow process, but one that makes you appreciate many things that you take for granted when in excellent health.

Glad to hear you are out and about (if slowly)!

Its great to hear from you and I smiled at your list of outings (at least her priorities are well in place ;) )

Remember, you do not have to be super woman, just take your time in healing and enjoy this slow period to the max.

So glad to hear from you again and that you are doing better. You just keep taking it easy and enjoy this "slower" time. Like Karoda, I like that you listed going to the fabric shop as the first thing on your outings. LOL

Welcome back! I've been missing your posts and am relieved to know you are on the mend. Enjoy these lazy days, I'm in the middle of the end o'year craziness at this academic library and could use some r&r.

So good to hear from you, Sweetie. I've had recoveries from two significant surgeries and I know you have days you wonder if you'll ever feel normal again. (I SWEAR some of my body parts were signaling me that one of their mates was seriously MIA!) Relaxation and laziness aren't much fun when they aren't a choice, but instead are the result of pain and loss of stamina. It does take as long (or longer) than they say it will, but one of these days you will be BETTER than your old "normal." Try to catch all the good vibes being sent your way!

So good to hear from you Jen - I've been checking off and on also.
REST is the most important part of the recovery so enjoy.
All those things you want to do will still be there when you are totally 100%.
Sending lots of good thought and cyber HUS!!!

You just take it easy, girl. I ouldn't believe how long it took me to get over my surgery - anaesthetic is strong stuff! So just do what you feel like until you your energy comes back.

I'm glad to hear you're doing better. The sharp little stabby nerve pains surprised me after surgery too. They lasted nearly 3 years after my big abdominal incision for gall bladder ( 2 yrs before the started doing laproscopic). They get less & less as time goes by.
Give yourself time to heal & rest, it may be several months beofre all of your energy is 100%. Good luck.
