Today's Progress

I stayed close to home again today, sadly missing out on a gathering of my quilting friends. Looking on the bright side, I did spend more time working on adding color and fused shapes to my Spring Quilt. I found a great handpainted yellow with orange and will be enhancing some of those flower shapes with this fabric. I tried using pastel in addition to fabric ink, markers, and paint, and I was happy with the result. The colors can be built up gradually and blended, just like on paper. Has anyone else used artist's pastel on a quilt and did you use a fixative?

There will be more green leaf shapes across the bottom, stronger orange flower shapes and possibly the addition of some other colors (blue I'm thinking). We'll see where this takes me, but I'm certainly having fun.

Jen glad you are looking after yourself, love your Spring Flowers,
I have used pastle on a postcard I did it about 16 months ago and it is still fine, I was experimenting with different mediums at the time, using what I had learnt to do at college on paper, but trying them on fabric, I heat set them, no fixative, I have not washed them either so have not tested for water, there was a thread on QA which I read with interest and some people said they sprayed with diluted acrylic medium, no ratios of dilution were given but you might be able to find some of the posts in the achives, I will be interested to hear more of your using pastles and your experience with them, they are my favoured medium,

Your spring flowers are beautiful. I especially like the way you captured the geraniums - petal & leaves! Hope you feel better soon.
